The German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ) is an important element of Germany's pioneering work in the development and use of renewable energy. The focus is on flexibility, energy efficient buildings, the use of renewable building materials, health and comfort, quality of use, user acceptance, and construction and management costs.

Since a "sensible application" of the system rather than certification is required, a cross-project "sustainability catalog" was developed. This enables simplification of verification compared to a conventional certification. This catalog is based on the system contents BNB_LN and BNB_BN of the Sustainable Building Assessment System (BNB). The project-relevant sustainability targets were expressed through quantifiable measures as well as documentation requirements (obligations). The results of the implementation are to be published after completion of the project in the form of a meaningful results report ("Sustainability Brochure").
