Alpha IC Schweiz AG is developing a common standard for the use of IoT-based technologies in facility management with various business partners from the FM industry. The aim of this standard is to illustrate the possible uses of IoT-based technologies in the context of smart facility management services. These services complement the conventional understanding of FM service provision and visualize intelligent approaches as to how “FM as a service” can be provided in the future.
During the development of the standard, all FM-relevant processes are examined individually for the potential to use of IoT technologies and explained with examples. Each process has five levels of innovation and corresponding IoT measures to make arrange the processes with different intelligent ways. Based on the innovation level, the requirements for the organization, infrastructure and security are then derived so that the users of the standard receive a roadmap on how these processes can be implemented in practice.
