"Key factors for digital transformation" was the title of the presentation by guest speaker Clarissa Hack, Head of Digital Transformation at SPIE Germany & Central Europe at our 3rd GEFMA Lounge Bavaria-Nuremberg on 02.12.2021.

"When we talk about digital transformation, it is a process of change, a cultural change, in which it is important to bring everyone along with us as much as possible," Clarissa Hack answered the introductory question about the necessary digital mindset of a company right at the beginning against the background of SPIE's digitalisation process. "We call this the Digital Eco System," Clarissa Hack continued.

Communication is the big challenge.

"We use all possibilities to inform our employees: the monthly employee magazine, Yammer as a digital platform for internal communication, regional, branch and team meetings and a multiplier network. Furthermore, we hold an internal innovation competition to motivate colleagues to submit proposals. The best ideas are recognised with prizes. For face-to-face exchanges, we organise our so-called ONE-SPIE fair for clients, employees, partners and other stakeholders."

SPIE's ambition is to be a digital leader. With its digital culture and transformation, it wants to set standards for people, markets, internal processes and the solution portfolio. This Digital Eco System is also important as a benchmark for employer attractiveness, for example.

"One can't achieve digital transformation alone," Clarissa Hack continued, "but only with a good network. We deliberately look for partners in technology and services. SPIE invites you to the relevant topics, whether Robotic Process Automation, Virtual or Augmented Reality. Together with our customers, we then implement the technologies and develop them further together in a needs-oriented manner."

Developing new processes and products with partners and customers

The collaborative research platform ARENA2036, of which SPIE has been an active member since 2018, is at the heart of this. SPIE uses ARENA2036 as an Innovation Lab to develop prototypes and smart services together with partners and to test them for use by clients, as well as to automate its own processes. The topic "Digital Building Twin" was developed as the first project in this research with a production hall, office space and a technical services room. Clarissa Hack presented the digital building twin as a single point of truth as well as the push information app "on-site" as best practice examples of use case development. "If the technology works as a prototype, then we go into piloting. At this stage, we are already working on a client project," says Clarissa Hack.

The fact that this GEFMA Lounge had hit the mark with the question of the cultural and structural framework conditions for successful company development through digitalisation was shown by the almost 90 industry representatives who took part in the lecture and the subsequent discussion. Regarding the costs of digitisation, the speaker assured the audience that it is possible to make progress with even with a small budget. You just have to set the scope of the project correctly and clearly work out the benefits for the clients or your own processes. Many projects are a joint investment by SPIE, clients and partners.

Openness and courage of colleagues and our customers are important aspects of the digitalisation process.

"In addition to open and courageous clients, our colleagues are essential to successful initiation and management of digitisation. You don't always know for sure what the result will be. This is where we provide support with our Digital Transformation Department and support our teams. The technical input, however, comes from the operational areas," the speaker concluded.

We thank Clarissa Hack for the informative and inspiring lecture and all participants for the lively discussion and look forward to welcoming you at one of our next GEFMA Lounges next year.
