Digitalization is also affecting the FM sector and requires operators and investors to rethink building planning and subsequent use. This topic is not new, but there is often a lack of concrete know-how on how to achieve efficiency gains and cost savings in building operations. On 25.03.2021, the 1st digital GEFMA Lounge 2021 "Creating benefits from data - digitalization in FM" of the Lounge Bayern-Nürnberg took place, which was dedicated to this issue. Due to the current pandemic situation, we decided to hold it digitally.

After the lounge manager Sebastian Hölzlein gave a brief introduction to the topic, the participants were treated to a practical presentation. Frank Schröder, Head of Facility Management at PHOENIX CONTACT Electronics, provided exciting insights into the Bad Pyrmont site and highlighted the obstacles that can arise during digitalization. In his opinion, the biggest challenge is to find a common language in which the various components of the building can communicate with each other. He also made it clear that more courageous action is required in the digitalization of new and existing buildings in order to be prepared for the future. His presentation was followed by a lively discussion with all those involved as to whether additional investment costs are really required for this or whether these can be compensated for in later operation. The question of how existing buildings can be subsequently digitized was also answered..

We are delighted with the lively participation of over 100 GEFMA members and FM enthusiasts and the lively discussion that took place despite the digital format and would like to thank everyone involved once again.
