The new Kaiserslautern High School building will be built within the US-owned Kaiserslautern-Vogelweh. The building complex is free-standing and connects to the new stadium with multi-purpose hall and the school bus station.

The project goal was LEED certification v3 for Schools with the Silver label (> 50 points), which reached 56 points in August 2018. As an LEED consultant, Alpha IC supervised the LEED certification of the construction project in 2013-2018 from the planning phase through the construction phase to commissioning. All the services, including the building simulation required by LEED and the commissioning, were provided internally from a single source. The project objective was to carry out a commissioning (systematic quality assurance process) and thus to ensure that all technical systems and components function in accordance with the requirements of the client and the design. This needed to take the building envelop into consideration to achieve synergy effects.

  • Development and protection of a low-pollution building with very good indoor air quality
  • Sourcing of greener regional and recycled building materials
  • 95% recycling rate of construction site waste
  • School building in accordance with 21st Century Schools
